Inaugural Waiheke Vintage Wine Festival. 28th March - 6th April 2014
I am exhibiting at two venues for this event.
The Batch Vineyard has an exhibition of tableware in which I have these works on show.
Kennedy Point Vineyard is hosting a sculpture exhibition entitled "Weather or Not". A requirement for this exhibition was that a minimum of 50% of the raw materials were to be recycled.
The piece I have entered for this exhibition is "Janus" the Roman god of beginnings and transitions. He faces in two directions so that he is reflecting upon the superb summer we have experienced on the island for grape growing and his other face looks forward in eager anticipation to taste what promises to be an excellent vintage.
The clay used was reconstituted from a previous sculpture rejected before firing.
The column is laminated from old weather boards and plywood.
It all stands in an old rejected power pole which proved to be made of a rich red hardwood - Australian Jarra.
